Dubai or Dubai (Arabic دبي, Dubayy) is both a city and a emirate of the UAE.
Founded in the eighteenth century, the emirate and the city are becoming more important in contributing to the creation of the Trucial States (Trucial States in English) in 1853 and the United Arab Emirates current 1971. The emir of Dubai retains informally as Vice-President of the UAE.
With 3885 square kilometers, is the second emirate in terms of area after Abu Dhabi. Open to the Persian Gulf between the emirates of Sharjah (North and East) and Abu Dhabi (south), most of the territory is occupied by the desert of the Rub al-Khali.
