Montjuic

Poble Espanyol de Montjuic is a typical village on a hill on the outskirts of the city of Barcelona, but it is different from all other villages that will be likely to encounter. The village lies south of the city at an altitude of 192 meters and is situated directly on the center of Barcelona.

Poble Espanyol was built for the International Exhibition in Barcelona 1929 and represents what is perceived as the archetypal English village. The village takes its inspiration from the whole of Spain, it has a footprint of just under 50,000 square meters and includes 117 different buildings.

The objective of Poble Espanyol de Montjuic is to present the features and aesthetics of different styles of building the country in one place. Not less than 1600 towns and villages were distinct visited and photographed during research for the village. Many styles are blended to create a homogeneous mixture of English heritage.

To make things even most interesting (and impressive), the village is built in scale, with all buildings, streets and places of the real size. In other words, you can stroll the streets and even visit some interior as if it were a real village.

Originally, the Poble Espanyol de Montjuic was only there for the time of exposure, but because of his success and his status as a "English village perfect", it was retained.

The project was conducted pa r a number of architects, including the "modernists" Puig i Cadafalch and Francesc Ramon Reventós Folguera.

The village has a beautiful main square or "alameda" and many buildings from the fifteen English autonomous communities, including Andalusia, Asturias, Castilla i León, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia and the Balearic Islands. This village is an artificial show and the only opportunity to see so many styles together in one place.

In the village you will find restaurants, cafes, gift shops, activities and exhibitions.
